New Mexico 2025

Closer to the Clouds

Several months after losing our home and community to the Eaton Fires in California, I was regrettably stuck  in personal and collective unease. The heavy energy was accumulating in growing waves, and it was coming from a number of  sources--my own thinking included. Through a window held open by some very loving people,  I booked a place for  6 weeks in Santa Fe, New Mexico for an artist in residency.  In short, with miles of tears between us, I  had escaped Los Angeles.

I  was thrilled to live under the expressive, colorful, skies and atmospheres, walk the rugged lands, eat sublime Hatch Chili everything,  and meet light-hearted travelers and residents.  I felt welcomed to an unexpected new sense of possibility and inspiration. I felt curious outside of my own self.  My heart felt safer, and my eyes were ready to have a deeper and unfiltered look into the distance, so I looked up and wandered into the clouds.

The masses of  white, blue-grey  droplet-filled beings invited a sense of wonderment and adventure that had been missing in my previously zipped-up spirit.  I felt understood and even nourished after offering my grief to these blessed teachers,, listening and shapeshifting with color and movement. I celebrate some of the cloud beings here and offer gratitude for their  ephemeral presence.
